KATHMANDU, March 30: With the inception of the Docskool Film Centre, a professional film theatre at Gaurighat, Kathmandu, Docskool is organizing Cine Saptaha, a yearlong open series comprising a weeklong daily exhibition of Nepali short films starting from April 8.

Initiating the series, for a week starting from April 8 to April 12, Docskool will be exhibiting two films made as part of the Docskool – KUart collaboration in 2010 which are “Between the Lines” by Kailash K. Shrestha and “Generation Zed”.[break]

Those who are members of the Docskool are eligible to present their films, and the films proposed for screening in the event must be between 15-30 minutes in run time.

Professional productions of 30 minutes or more will be provided with specific promotional packages with the support of Docskool.

“The program has been organized to provide a platform for amateur young filmmakers and help promote independent cinema in a small setup,” said Sashul Shrestha, Technical Coordinator of Docskool.

He further added that young filmmakers here do not have access to specific film promotional spaces, and thus the event will be beneficial and will promote both their individual films as well as the future cinema of the country.

“The film shows will be based on ticket sales making the film accessible to the general public and also help the filmmakers to have some monetary benefits,” he said.

Docskool is an open network of professional and aspiring filmmakers working in Nepal to promote cinema as an accessible, socially inclusive art form.

Active since 2008, Docskool operates as a network of over 1,500+ such filmmakers in Nepal. Access to the network is open and based on membership.

Every week, a new film will be screened, starting at 4:30 pm.

Tickets to the event can be accessed at the door or through advanced registration at docskoolnepal@gmail.com. For more information, contact 4471104.
