KATHMANDU, April 29: Envoys of the European Union have urged the Maoists to withdraw their protest and seek consensus.

During their meeting with Maoist Chairman Dahal at the party headquarters on Thursday, they also expressed concern over possible incidents of violence in the demonstrations.

French Ambassador to Nepal Gilles Henry Garault said the country would plunge into crisis if consensus was not sought immediately.

According to party foreign department chief Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the Maoist leaders told the envoys that they were trying their best to seek consensus. “And if consensus is not reached, the demonstrations from May 2 will be peaceful. If the government takes to repressive measures, people will retaliate,” Mahara quoted Dahal as telling the envoys.
