Ensure peace process, draft statute in 3 months: NGO's body

KATHMANDU, June 15: The NGO Federation of Nepal has expressed worry over the looming risk of peace process and constitution drafting being overshadowed within the extended period of the Constituent Assembly.



The eight full meeting of the federation held on Wednesday, said the Constituent Assembly forged to fulfill aspirations of people following the Jana Andolan to institutionalize historic changes couldn’t make substantial progress within three years of period.[break]



The umbrella body of NGOs appealed to the political parties and CA to bail the country out of the present political problems and implement the five-point implement signed by the three major parties.



It also urged the parties and CA to complete fundamental works of peace process and make public the first draft of the new constitution within Aug 31 by addressing the sentiments of people expressed in Jana Andolan.



The meeting stressed for formation of the proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission, a commission to search for the missing people and a high-level peace process monitoring commission.



Flaying repeated attacks on journalists, it called for probe into the attack on Biratnagar-based journalist Khilanath Dhakal and action against the guilty.
