On the occasion, Childreach Nepal, an INGO based in Kathmandu with its head office in the UK, launched their ‘My School, My Voice’ Campaign.[break]
The children in the school seemed very enthusiastic about the campaign and the commotion in their school, located few meters above the Budhanilkantha Temple.
Talking to Republica during the campaign launch, Prateek Syangden, Project Officer at Childreach Nepal, said, “We are launching this campaign simultaneously in eight different government schools in Nepal, which will continue for a year, as of now.”
Pre-Primary students of Budhanilkantha Ashram School in Kathmandu play ‘Burst the balloon’ during the Universal Children’s Day and ‘My School, My Voice’ Campaign launch on Tuesday.
Along with Budhanilkantha Ashram School, seven other schools in Bhaktapur, Kavre and Sindhupalchwok will see the children participate in the empowerment program.
“The idea is to let the children think for themselves. When we went on field, we saw that the children were active but the much needed platform was missing and that is exactly what we’ve tried to create,” informed Syangden.
11 active students in the eight different schools chosen by Childreach Nepal have been chosen to be in the club. On different occasions, the club will have to put together and organize a small scale event in their school, which will be funded by Childreach, and also have discussions on various children issues such as quality education, healthcare, disability, environment and protection.
“This way the children will know how to voice themselves and bring up the issues. Our hope is that the children will voice themselves in the school at the moment and later for their community and when they are an adult, about the national and international issues,” said Syangden.
The 11 members of the club are also to be linked with eight schools in the UK and three private schools in Kathmandu and Lalitpur district.
“At the moment, the introduction letters are being written. Later, they will be discussing about various issues regarding children and Skype meetings will also be scheduled,” informed Syangden.
