Arjun Mahato, 60, of Bandipur was abducted from Chiraiya of Balabakhar-9, while he was headed to Hathamunda of the district.
Soon after being alerted about the incident, plain clothes police rescued him from Chairi of Chiraiya, police inspector Naresh Raj Subedi of the area police office, Mirchaiya, said.
Nobody from the kidnapping gang has been arrested. Police are to track down the abductors after taking statement from the victim.
