Muga Ram Rai of Aaptar VDC-3 was nabbed red handed in Gaighat by the police while collecting Rs 8,000 from a businessman. [break]
Rai wearing a mask to hide his identity, was arrested by plain clothed policemen as he collected the money from the businessman.
Sim card, letter heads in the name of the Morcha and other related documents were seized during search of his rented room, the police said.
Some of the letters seized from the Rai´s room had demanded up to Rs 200,000 from secretaries and businessmen and threatened them of severe consequences if they did not cooperate.
Besides being a councilor of Baidya affiliated Revolutionary Journalist Federation Committee, Rai is an editor of a daily newspaper published in Gaighat. “We only knew him as a journalist. His affiliation to any revolutionary groups was not known to us,” said Senjam Kirat Secretary of the committee.
