DPM Koirala holds talks with Chinese Minister in Thimpu

THIMPU, April 28: China has pledged to support SAARC. Chinese deputy foreign minister Wang Guangya who arrived in Thimpu to attend the 16th SAARC Summit as the representative of China, which is an observer country in SAARC, said so after a meeting with Nepali Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala in Thimpu.



In the meeting, Wang said China is in favor of progress and prosperity of SAARC and announced an assistance of $300,000 to the South Asian regional body. [break]



He also clarified that China wants political stability and development in Nepal and expressed hopes that the political crisis in Nepal will be solved through consensus and cooperation.



He praised Nepal’s role in containing anti-China activities and expressed hopes that no anti-China activity will be held in Nepal in the future too.



Koirala said China’s role is important in making SARC a strong and effective organization. She recalled that Nepal-China ties remained strong ever since the tenure of former PM BP Koirala and said she will do her best to take the existing bilateral ties to a new height.



In the meeting, the two ministers also discussed about Nepal’s peace process and constitution making process.
