The officials alleged that President Thapa, General Secretary Birendra Khadka and their supporters of working in an autocratic style. "Thapa and Khadka have been selecting central representatives and referees for regional selection tournaments on their own and without consulting the NVA central committee or secretariat.," said Katuwal.

"The president and the general secretary are trying to avoid the central committee members, who have been criticizing Thapa´s working style and pressurizing him to call a general assembly as soon as possible," said Katuwal. "Thapa has been promoting his close aides," he added.

According to Katuwal, a central committee meeting was called for December 10 but the meeting was short of quorum and could not take any decision. "We had agreed to call another meeting within a week but Thapa has not called a meeting again," claimed Shrestha.

"Regional selection tournament of the Western Region has already been concluded but we have no official information about it," said Maskey, a central committee and secretariat member. "Selection for the central region has begun in Sindhuli from today (Tuesday) and other regional selections are also scheduled within a week."

The four-year term of the current executive committee of NVA expires February 9. They said the establishment faction wants to extend the term by another six months citing National Games.

"Periodic election should not be postponed under any pretext," said Katuwal.
