Sources said Dahal decided to revive the ANTUF after the group led by erstwhile ANTU Chairman Shalikram Jamkattel threatened to boycott the mass rally in the capital. [break]"We have decided to revive the ANTUF committee with a commitment to correct various shortcomings and loopholes seen in the past," Jamkattel told Republica.
The ANTUF was dissolved last year after a rift among three different factions led by Badri Bajgain [close to Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya] and Laldhwaj Nembang [close to Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai]. The Maoist standing committee then formed 5th National Convention Organizing Committee under the leadership of the party Secretary Post Bahadur Bogati.
The revival of Jamkattel committee came after Bogati committee failed to hold the 5th national convention and Baidya faction unilaterally formed an ANTUF Committee under the leadership of Ramdeep Acharya.
Jamkattel said that the mistakes will be corrected within two or three days and that those who were sacked from the committee will be reinstated in the same positions. Cadres close to Jammakattel had beaten up leaders close to Baidya and Bhattarai in the past at Patan Industrial Area, Lalitpur. Likewise, cadres close to Bhattarai faction later beat up the cadres belonging to Dahal faction.
ANTUF cadres close to Bhattarai faction in the party have also agreed to be part of Jamkattel-led Committee. "We have discussed the matter with our party leadership and the convention organizing committee chief, Bogati. We will also revive our committee if the conditions are not fulfilled," said Nembang.
