The players were selected by the national selection committee headed by Bijay Kumar Sharma, CAN officials announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
“The selection was based on the performance of the players in the national as well as international tournaments,” said Sharma.
“There are seven new players in the national team while three players -- Shiva Tandukar, Rahul Pratap Singh and Bivek Dali -- have been dropped,” he added.
The final selection of 14 players will be done after the players receive their visas, said Binay Raj Pandey, the president of CAN.
“Since the tournament will be held in Ireland and Northern Ireland, there might be some problem for the players to get visas. So we will carry out the final selection only after receiving the visas,” said Pandey.
The selected players are Prithu Banskota, Sagar Pun, Bhuwan Karki, Naresh Budhaire, Faijrul Rahman Khan, Rajesh Pulami, Subhash Khakurel, Rahul Vishvakarma, Avinash Karn, Krishna Karki and Pradeep Aire. Likewise, Jitendra Mukhia, Subendu Pandey, Amit Dahal, Amrit Shrestha, Amit Shrestha, Rupesh Shrivastav and Nischal Pandey are the new faces in the team.
Among the selected players, five are from Nepal Police Club.
“None of the players put up extraordinary performance in the national tournament but we believe that their experience and attitude will count. We are sure that Nepal will qualify for the world cup,” said chief selector Sharma.
Sharma further said that some of the U-19 players have good potential. Those talented players are likely to be taken in the senior team, according to Sharma.
Jagat Tamata has been appointed the coach for the U-19 team.
