KATHMANDU, Sept 16: Events after Saturday evening in Nepalgunj, where Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai was shouted at by passengers onboard Buddha Air flight to Kathmandu, have suddenly escalated.
Gyanendra Shahi, one of the individuals present inside the aircraft in Nepalgunj, was attacked on Sunday during a press conference in Lalitpur. He is currently in police custody and the police are working to file charges against him. Minister Bhattarai issued a non-apology apology Saturday evening, blaming “monarchists” for the chaos in Nepalgunj airport.

In a major turn of events, Minister Bhattarai’s secretariat issued a statement on Sunday, blaming “regressive forces” and terming the Nepalgunj incident as a “threat” against hard-won democracy.
Similarly, Communist Party of Nepal’s sister wing, Rashtriya Yuwa Sangh Nepal-Kaski chapter, issued a separate statement on Sunday banning Gyanendra Shahi from entering Kaski district.
The statement also threatens to take “any action” to “discourage” characters working to create chaos and spread misinformation on social media platforms.
People on social media have strongly condemned such a threat and netizens are mocking the two-thirds government for poor handling of an incident in Nepalgunj.
