KATHMANDU, July 22: The controversy over user certificate presented by Oberthur Technology, a France based security printer, ended on Wednesday after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a letter from the Korean government confirming the use of PARK and OPC personalized printers in Korea.

As the controversy ended, the ministry has sent a letter of acceptance to the French security printer -- which has won the tender for printing machine readable passports (MRPs) -- asking the firm to sign the agreement. [break]

The controversy over the personalized printers surfaced after two other bidders -- Indonesian Perum Peruri and British De La Rue -- filed separate complaints accusing the French security printer of furnishing fake evidence certifying the use of the personalized printers in Korea.

“We have sent the letter from the Korean government to the Public Accounts Committee of parliament,” said the official preferring anonymity.

The parliamentary committee is studying the decision of the ministry to award the tender to the French firm.
