KAWASOTI, July 28: Work on construction of a diversion has begun to the south of the Jayashree bridge at Gaindakot, Nawalparasi district, after the bridge collapsed on Monday evening due to heavy load.

The construction works started after 14 hours of the incident, said Chief Engineer at the Western Regional Road Division Office, Butwal, Deepak Kumar Bhattarai.Thousands of passengers were compelled to spend the night on the road in Nawalaparasi due to this. Meanwhile, some people are headed towards their destinations on foot.

Bhattarai said, "One-way transport service will resume from this evening."

According to the District Police Office, Nawalparasi, vehicles heading towards west are stationed at Gaindakot and vehicles heading towards east are stationed at Thumsi, Kawasoti, Chormara and Bardaghat. Locals said that the bridge bent after a tipper and a truck tried to cross the bridge at the same time.

A Bailey bridge is going to be constructed there as there was possibility of the diversion being swept away by flood any time with the occurrence of heavy rain. Bhattarai further said that the Bailey bridge is to be constructed as it would take more time for the repair and maintenance of the broken bridge.

He said, "The Bailey bridge will be constructed within 10 days facilitating the vehicular movement." RSS
