“A perfect pair of winter boots not only keeps the feet warm in winter but also makes one look perfectly stylish and adds charm to one´s personality,” said Surendra Maharjan of New Road-based Purna Store that sells boots of Shoes Story, a Chinese brand.
As more and more women are looking for boots these days, traders say demand for these footwear has gone up by 20 to 25 percent this year in Kathmandu.
“Boots are very much in fashion these days and sales have propped up by 25 percent because these shoes offer perfect treat during harsh winter,” said Lakshman Shrestha, one of the proprietors of Sphinx that sells boots in the range of Rs 3,200 and Rs 4,500.
As demand for boots is going up, prices have also increased. But the price hike so far has had little impact on sales.
“Yes, prices of boots have increased by up to 15 percent this year. Yet this has not affected sales because these shoes have turned into must-have items during winter. If the temperature continues to go down in this manner demand will further rise,” said Kamin Kaji Bajracharya, proprietor of Celesti Collection at People´s Plaza in Khichhapokhari.
The store, which imports boots from China, has a wide collection of boots, with prices ranging from Rs 1,250 to Rs 6,000. “We sell around 20 to 25 pairs of boots in a day,” said Bajracharya.
