Team leader of CoPP, Prachanda Man Shrestha said that Parbat grabbed the title of best coffee producing district while Kaski and Syangja came second and third respectively.
Samples of coffee from nine districts including Gulmi, Lalitpur, Palpa, Kavre, Sindhupalchowk were tested.
“Factors like sweetness, bitterness, sensation in the tongue and throat while drinking coffee were considered while testing the quality of coffee,” team leader Shrestha said.
The president of district coffee entrepreneurs association, Parbat, Bhawani Prasad Sharma said that geography and climate play a key role in improving the quality of coffee. Sharma said, “Suitable climate, shade and proper soil are other important factors for better quality.” He further said that improvised technique in processing and storage of coffee had also helped in making the quality of coffee better.
In Parbat district, coffee is cultivated up to the height of 1,000 to 1,700 meters. Parbat was able to produce 10 ton of parchment coffee this year.
