In his short stint at MMC, Thapa guided the team to title of Ncell Cup in October and Safal Pokhara Cup in November. However, MMC assumed as the title favorite in the league finished fifth at the end of first round with 26 points, nine behind leader Three Star Club. Of the 15 matches in the league, MMC won seven, lost three and played draw in five matches. It is learnt that MMC management was not satisfied with Thapa.
Under Thapa, MMC played 25 matches in total, including A division league and three other tournaments, of which the team won 15, lost four and played draw in six matches. Ongoing Aaha-Rara Gold Cup in Pokhara is the latest in the series to prompt Thapa´s resignation.

MMC crashed out from the very first match of the tournament after losing 4-1 to host Sahara in the quarterfinal following 2-2 draw in the regulation time.
"The club had appointed me targeting the league, but I could not lead the club for good performance in the league as well as in the Aaha-Rara Gold Cup. Thus, I am leaving the club on moral grounds and there is no other reason for the resignation," said Thapa.
"I do not see possibility of winning other tournaments in the season as well because nine key players are udergoing training in the national team." MMC is competing in the Simara Gold Cup, Budhasubba Gold Cup, Tilottama Cup and Birat Gold Cup in near future.
"The club´s president had requested me to stay in the club but I refused and sent my resignation today," said Thapa who vowed to stay in football in future as well.
"I won´t rejoin MMC in the current season but I may join it in the next season." Thapa also said that he does not have any complaint with the club´s management, players and fans. "The club is now in the fifth place in the league and I am confident that the club will finish at least third in the Super Eight round."
