Chaudhary sets nat'l record in discus-throw

KATHMANDU, Dec 7: Hiran Chaudhary of Nepal Police set a new national record in the women´s discus-throw on Friday.



Chaudhary threw the disc to a distance of 32.29m in the Open Selection Tournament held in Kathmandu for the second phase Mission SAG Training Program. Earlier, Sujata Subba had the record of 31.59m, which she had set in 1989.[break]



In women´s 100m sprint, Sabitri Nepal of Nepal Police clocked 13.1 seconds to stay ahead of Sabita Chaudhary of Armed Police Force (13.5 seconds). Dil Maya Karki of APF finished on top of the podium in women´s 400m sprint as she covered the distance in 60.1 seconds. APF´s Bindra Shrestha clinched the first position in women´s 1500m clocking 5 minutes 2.3 seconds while her teammate Kanchhi Maya Koju clocked 37:30.7 to win the women´s 10km race.



Sixth National Games´ record holder Sabita Chaudhary of APF clocked 18.1 seconds to win women´s 100m hurdles. In women´s high jump, Shila Chaudhary of APF leaped 1.45m.



Meanwhile, Tilak Ram Chaudhary of Nepal Police claimed the first position in men´s 100m sprint. Chaudhary finished the sprint in 10.8 seconds.



In men´s 400m Dashi Ram Chaudhary of Nepal Army clocked 52.16 seconds and remained ahead of Nepal Police´s Hari Narayan Mahato (54.14 seconds). Army´s Kalyan Baniya won the men´s 1500m clocking 4 minutes 01 seconds.



Raj Kumar Bista of Nepal Army won men´s 10km race clocking 32 minute 15 seconds. Army´s Lal Bahadur Thapa (33 minutes 15 seconds) occupied the second position.



In men´s 110m hurdles, Dhirendra Chaudhary of Nepal Police clocked 16 seconds to stay ahead of APF´s Santosh Kumar Shrestha (16.5 seconds).

Another Army personnel Dilli Khatri stood on the top of the victory stand in men´s triple jump as he covered 14.13m. Chandra Dev Joshi of Nepal Police remained occupied the second position after jumping 13.50m.



In men´s high jump, Army man Surya Bahadur Khatri (1.85m) remained ahead of APF personnel Bal Krishna Chaudhary (1.80m). Tara Bahadur Karki of Nepal Army threw thedisc 38.45m away to win men´s discus-throw event while his teammate Bam Bahadur Gurung occupied the second position after throwing disc to a distance of 34.45m.



The selection tournament will conclude on Saturday and Nepal Amateur Athletics Association will pick the potential athletes for the Mission SAG Training Program from the tournament.
