PALPA, Dec 30: Chief District Officer of Palpa Janak Raj Regmi on Wednesday announced that the district residents can directly contact him in his cell phone to inform him about their problems.[break]

Regmi made the announcement after Jyoti Baniya, general secretary of Consumers´ Rights Protection Forum, urged him during a function to set up a hotline which the consumers can use to inform the administration about their problems.

Regmi urged journalists present at the function to publicize his cell phone number for the benefit of consumers.

His reason for converting his cell number into a hotline is the lack of infrastructure in the district. He complained that a majority of government buildings in the district were damaged during the conflict and the pace of reconstruction is dismally slow.

“The district does not even have offices to house civil servants for the purpose of issuing citizenship certificates and passports,” he said. He said he wants to set up a separate hotline with devoted staff and an office in the future.

He said the administration does not have funds even to set up a hotline, and therefore his cell phone would function as the hotline for now. “My cell phone will serve as a hotline. But please tell the people not to call me in the night,” he said.
