KATHMANDU, March 30: The Citizens´ Campaign for Right to Information (CCRI), an NGO working for promotion and protection of right to information in Nepal, has strongly demanded for an immediate appointment of secretary at National Information Commission (NIC).

In a letter to the PMO on Tuesday, NIC urged the prime minister to make the appointment soon.

NIC was constituted on June 6, 2008, and since its establishment the government kept the post of the secretary vacant for five months. The first secretary was appointed on October 26, 2008. He was later transferred to the Ministry of Defense on March 25, 2009.

Following this, for more than six months, the post remained vacant and the government appointed another secretary on October 9 last year. At present, NIC is without a secretary for the third time in its history. NIC´s second secretary was transferred on January 6.

The letter says the delay has affected proper functioning of the commission.
