BUSINESS BRIEFS: Nepse employees call off protest

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Agitating employees of Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Monday postponed their protest till Feb 12, asking the Nepse management to create working environment in the sole secondary market in the country by addressing their demands.



The Nepse Employees´ Association postponed the program three days after the Ministry of Finance (MoF) directed Nepse to create environment conducive for agitating employees to return to work. [break]



MoF issued the directive after the employees brought share trading to a grinding halt for three days.



The MoF had also directed the Nepse management to forward demands of workers to MoF once the employees return to work. Issuing a press statement on Monday, the association said it has taken the MoF decision positively.


Sanchar co-op buys insurance cover



Sanchar Savings and Credit Cooperatives -- the first cooperative of working journalists -- has bought accident insurance cover of Rs 30 million from Shikhar Insurance Company. Under the policy agreement that the two parties signed on Monday, each member of the cooperative will enjoy accident insurance of Rs 300,000 for treatment in case of mishaps. The package includes a separate medical cover of Rs 10,000 as well. Issuing a press statement on the occasion, the cooperative has expressed hope that the facility will bring relief to working journalists who risk their lives for upholding people´s right to information.
