Bus-bike collision kills one in Sarlahi

The accident occurred at Bagwani in Nawalpur, Ward 1 of Lalbandi Municipality, when a bus heading from Biratnagar to Kathmandu (Lu.P.03-001 Kha 0430) rammed into a motorcycle (Pr.2-03-015 Pa 3396) traveling in the same direction from behind.

SARLAHI, March 15: A motorcyclist died after being hit by a bus along the East–West highway in Sarlahi district on Saturday night, police said.



The accident occurred at Bagwani in Nawalpur, Ward 1 of Lalbandi Municipality, when a bus heading from Biratnagar to Kathmandu (Lu.P.03-001 Kha 0430) rammed into a motorcycle (Pr.2-03-015 Pa 3396) traveling in the same direction from behind.


The motorcyclist, identified as 35-year-old Sunil Mahato, a resident of Chapkaiya in Birgunj Metropolitan City–1, Parsa, who had been living in Nawalpur, Lalbandi–1, sustained critical injuries in the crash, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saroj Rai, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sarlahi.

Mahato was rushed to the Provincial Hospital in Malangawa for treatment but died during the course of medical care, police said.


Following the incident, police detained the bus driver, 34-year-old Ganesh Basnet of Tulsipur Municipality–9 in Dang, along with the vehicle. Further investigation into the accident is underway, police added.
