BoK launches schemes for migrant workers, farmers

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Bank of Kathmandu (BoK) has launched schemes aimed at overseas migrant workers and farmers. Foreign Employment Banking allows people who are working abroad or their kin living in the country to open account at the bank with minimum deposit of Rs 500.



 “Soon after the account is opened, the bank will add Rs 133.33 to the person´s account. And every time the account is topped up by the overseas migrant worker an additional Rs 33.33 will be added to the person´s balance,” a bank statement says. This scheme, apart from letting people working abroad to park money in the account, permits a member of the family to access loans.[break]



BoK Farmer Banking Service, a scheme aimed at farmers, on the other hand, allows customers to open savings account with minimum deposit of Rs 100 and recurring fixed account with minimum deposit of Rs 500. “Soon after opening of savings account, the bank will add Rs 100 to it,” the statement says. The scheme, launched with the aim of bringing rural customers to the banking network, will also allow account holders to gain access to loans ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 150,000.
