With so much emphasis on the topic all around, we wanted know what the youths have to say about the changes in their eating habits when it comes to chicken items.[break]
Praveen Bhusal, 16, a +2 student at Tillotama Higher Secondary School in Butwal, shares, “Personally, I don’t take much meat. But if given a choice, I prefer chicken to other sources of meat. After the recent bird flu transmission news all over the media, I’m going to get on some vegetarian taste.” He adds, “Regardless to say, the festivity season is right ahead of us. So, let’s just hope this [epidemic] ends soon. I hope people have been avoiding chicken delicacies before it’s been declared officially safe and healthy to savor it again.”
On the other hand, some people are happy about the news.
“Bird flu is making people healthier. People are on a vegetarian vacation,” says Bijay Prakash Mainali, 22, a student at Nepal Engineering College, Bhaktapur.
Similarly, Pragya Pokhrel shares, “Well, I’m a vegetarian and when talking about ‘meat eating habit,’ it’s not my concern. But seeing my friends and relatives who used to have eggs and chicken on a daily basis, I feel happy seeing them develop vegetarian tastes.”
But some chicken fans are very upset.
Shristi Maharjan, 17, a Science student at AJ Wild Institute of Advance Studies in Maharajgunj, shares, “The news has really made me sad. Due to bird flu, everyone is talking about chicken and I just see chicken everywhere. It’s making me desperately want to eat chicken items.”
However, she feels happy that she has lost some weight as she’s been eating ‘healthy.’ That is, until chickens will get well soon again.
