Top leaders from Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, UCPN (Maoist) and Madhesi People's Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) also decided to meet Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang on Saturday and inform him about their latest plan.
NC Joint General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka said the meeting with CA chairman would set the timeline and chalk out a plan to expedite the constitution making process from Saturday. "The main emphasis of the meeting's decision is on carrying out the task on a war-footing and to complete it by August 15," Khadka told Republica.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and other top leaders of the four major political forces were present at the meeting.
UCPN (Maoist) Chief Whip Girirajmani Pokharel said most of the leaders at the meeting were for completing the task by August 10.
Leaders at the meeting said the campaign of collecting feedback on the draft constitution was successfully held and that they were for incorporating public suggestions in the new constitution so far as the inputs do not contradict with the basic features of the draft statute.
"We can't change some of the fundamental features that we have adopted in the draft constitution," said Khadka. "We will accommodate the suggestions that fit in."
According to him, the leaders are for improving the draft based on public feedback.
"Likewise, suggestions will be taken seriously when it comes to the rights of various sections of the society and professional groups and the concerned provisions will be improved accordingly," he added.
Asked if it is possible to complete the remaining task in the next three weeks, Khadka said it can be done if the CA carries out its work regularly. He claimed the leaders from four parties believed that they can produce the new constitution by mid-August without skipping any important CA procedure.
"For meeting the deadline, we will definitely shorten some of the procedures but will not skip any of them," he said.
Khadka claimed argued it wouldn't take long to achieve expected results. He claimed that feedback collection was successfully concluded even though very short time had been given for the purpose.
"The only thing we must do is to continue to work regularly," he added.
