Bhutan PM meets Nepal

KATHMANDU, April 1: Visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigme Yoser Thinley met with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter’s office on Thursday.



He arrived here to take part in the 13th day mourning function of the late Girija Prasad Koirala. In the meeting, Thinley said the late GP Koirala was a great democratic fighter not only of Nepal but also of the whole South Asia. [break]



He said he arrived here to extend condolence over Koirala’s death on behalf of the Bhutanese government and people. He said Koirala’s death has caused an irreparable loss to the democratic movement of the whole Asia.



He suggested the Nepal government to take the peace process to a logical end and draft new statute on time by following the path shown by Koirala.



In the meeting, the two leaders also talked about common problems of South Asia and Nepal-Bhutan bilateral issues.



On a question whether they also talked about the issue of Bhutanese refugees languishing in Nepal, PM Madhav Nepal said Bhutan has also taken the issue seriously and that the issue of resolving the problem will be discussed between the two countries under the coordination of international community in the future.



PM’s foreign affairs advisor Rajan Bhatarai said Thinley also talked about the preparations for the upcoming SAARC Summit and extended invitation to the prime minister to attend the summit. Bhattarai said PM Nepal asked Thinley to take the issue of repatriation of the refugees as their human rights.
