Bhandari's ton claims title for Kanchanpur

KANCHANPUR, Feb 13: A century from Binod Bhandari helped Kanchanpur clinch the title of Pepsi Senior Regional Cricket Tournament on Sunday as they defeated the hosts Baitadi by eight wickets in the final.



Bhandari blasted unbeaten 101 runs as Kanchanpur lifted the title for record fourth time.[break]

 

Electing to bat first, Baitadi scored 181/3 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Kanchapur achieved the target in 17.4 overs losing two wickets. The-man-of-the- match adjudged Bhandari hit six sixes and 11 fours during his inning.



Dinesh Aagri contributed 36 runs for Kanchanpur. Navin Chand and Rajendra Bhatta of Baitadi claimed a wicket each.



Earlier, Chand of Baitadi had scored 70 runs while Saroj Rawal remained unbeaten for 22. Lokendra Chand hit 36 off 15 including five sixes.  Lokendra remained unbeaten in all the matches for Baitadi. Kanchanpur´s Mahesh Shah and Dinesh Aagri took one wicket each.



Santosh Bhatta of Dadeldhura was declared the-man-of-the-series.



Narayan, Alkapuri victorious



Narayan Academy and Alkapuri registered victories in the 4th Chief of the Army Staff Inter-school Running Cricket Tournament on Sunday.



Narayan defeated EPS by 48 runs while Alkapuri beat Rajan Memorial by 50 runs. Winning the toss, Narayan opted to bat first and scored 139 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs.



While chasing the total, EPS were bowled out for 91 runs in 19.2 overs. Jeevan Lamsal bagged three wickets, which earned him the man-of-the-match award.



In the second match, Alkapuri won the toss and scored 141 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Roshan Lakai scored 47 runs off 39 balls while Rahul Mishra took four wickets for Rajan Memorial in his four-over spell in the first inning.



Tight bowling from Ishwar Khatiwada and Suban KC then helped Alkapuri restrict Rajan Memorial to 91/7 in 20 overs.



KCTC level series 2-2



Kathmandu Cricket Training Center (KCTC) won both friendly T20 cricket matches played on Sunday against Kerala Cricket Club to level the five match series 2-2.



KCTC won the first match by seven wickets and another by 117 runs played at the Pulchowk ground. Invited to bat first, Kerala scored 147/9 in the allotted 20 overs and in reply the hosts KCTC scored 150 with three balls to spare losing three wickets.



Abhay Paudel top scored with 62 runs while Sudhir Maharjan contributed 34 runs.



In another match, KCTC posted 171/9 and restricted visitors at 54 runs in 13.2 overs. Subash Pradhan (68) and Sudhir Maharjan (26) hit for host in their huge total.



Similarly, Thupten Lama claimed four wickets of the visiting team while Prakash Bista and Abhay Paudel pocketed two wickets each. 



Morgan, VS into semis



Morgan International and VS Niketan confirmed their semifinal place in the in the boys´ category of the 16th Professional Gyan Carnival Inter-college Basketball Tournament on Sunday.



Morgan edged past Nobel Academy 55-51. Ashish Gauchan scored 21 points for Morgan while Diwas Shrestha of Nobel scored 23 points. VS Niketan beat Xavier Academy 45-22 with 16 points from Subash Pun.



Junior basketball



Gyanodaya, Mahendra Bhawan and Angels´ Heart registered victory in the National U-14 Basketball Festival in girls´ category on Sunday. Gyanodaya beat New Summit 27-11 riding on 14 points from Rabina Bhattarai.



Mahendra Bhawan defeated TIA 25-18 while angel Heart registered a narrow 19-18 victory over Ganesh School. In the boys´ category, TIA beat Ganesh 25-18, Angels´ Heart struggled past Gyanodaya 38-36 and Neric saw off Golden Peak 25-19.
