ITAHARI, Feb 7: A general strike called by the Federal Limbuwan State Council (Revolutionary) for Sunday affected life in the eastern region, with transportation coming to a standstill and educational institutions remaining closed.

The organization called the strike to protest the federal model prepared by the State Restructuring Committee of the Constituent Assembly. It has demanded that nine districts east of the Arun River be declared a separate Limbuwan State.

Transportation in Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Tehrathum and Sankhuwasabha districts came to a standstill.

But a few vehicles were seen plying on the Sunsari-Morang route.
