BUTWAL, Feb 10: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya has reiterated that a roundtable conference was an appropriate option to end the ongoing political deadlock.

At a news conference organized by Revolutionary Journalists´ Federation Abadh State Committee here on Sunday, Baidya said the party would take to the streets if a consensus was not forged through the roundtable conference and Bhattarai-led government was in power.[break]

Baidya, also known as a hardliner communist, said that the protest programmes of the Nepali Congress and CPN -UML were just for remaining in power, as they were not centered on any concrete issues.

Saying that issue of national independence was the most complex one, the CPN-Maoist Chairman said the party would launch protest for the defense of national independence.

"Party´s recently concluded general convention has decided to go for a struggle regarding the issues of nationality and people´s livelihood. The party will move forward for its implementation," Baidya added.

Commenting on the political document tabled by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the party´s seventh national congress held in Hetauda, Baidya said that proposal for a referendum on disputed border issues was anti-national.

Baidya also said that Dahal´s proposal to form a Chief Justice-led government was irrelevant.

On a separate context, Baidya also ruled out the possibility of unification between the UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-Maoist under present circumstances.
