KATHMANDU, June 11: The fourteen sister organizations close to Mohan Baidya faction of the Maoist party have taken strong exception to the government decision to give facilities, including vehicle and residence to former prime ministers, chief justices, speakers and former home ministers.

Issuing a joint statement on Monday, the organizations asked the government to withdraw the decision and warned of sever consequences if it failed to do so.[break]

The government introduced an ordinance on facilities for former very important persons (VIPs) last month and started doling out facilities to them from mid-May.

"We will be compelled to launch stern protests if the decision that allows looting of the state coffer is not nullified," the sister organizations said in the joint statement.

Meanwhile, the home ministry has already started distributing the facilities to former VIPs without following due procedures.

A cabinet meeting on May 24 had approved a set of standards to be met while distributing the facilities and decided that the standards would be effective only after it is published in the official gazette.

However, the home ministry had yet to publish the standards as of Monday.

"We forgot to publish the standards in the gazette though we have already started distributing the facilities for former VIPs," said an official at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The ministry is now making preparations to publish the standards in the gazette with a backdate.
