KATHMANDU, July 3: Owners of AVCO International Pvt. Ltd, one of the two authorized dealers of Korean auto giant Hyundai in Nepal, has cheated at least 167 clients by not delivering vehicles even after taking full or partial payments for the cars.

Myrepublica.com has learnt that all the top bosses of the company have been absconding for at least a month, leaving few helpless staffs at its showrooms, who are clueless about the whereabouts of the owners. [break]

Of the hundreds of deceived clients, at least six have jointly lodged complaints of fraud at the District Administration Office, demanding action against the company. Officials at the office said that the complaint has been forwarded to the concerned area police office for further investigations.

Officials of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Baneshwar, said they have been unable to proceed with the investigation because of their failure to track the owners of AVCO for the purpose of recording statements.

“There are a number of complains about the company deceiving customers by not delivering cars even after taking payments months ago,” Ganesh Ayer, DSP at Baneshwar Post told myrepublica.com and added that they have not yet been able to track the owners of the company.

He further said, “We are trying to establish contact with the owners so as to discuss way out of the problem.” He further said that if they fail to bring the owners in negotiations within a week then they will have no option than to take legal recourse.

Myrepublica.com´s repeated attempts to contact Binita Pradhan, the Managing Director of AVCO, for comments didn´t materialize as her mobile phone either remained unanswered or switched off.

Myrepublica.com has also received a list of 167 victims who have either made full or partial payments in the hope of getting cars within a promised date.

The ordered vehicles include Santro GLS, i10 Magna/Asta/Sportz, Santro GL, i20 Magna/Asta, and i10 Era. Of the 167, 66 cars have been ordered from AVCO Cosmic Automobiles in Nagpokhari and the rest from AVCO Tinkune.

Bina Tamang, who paid Rs 100,000 as advance for an i20 Magna in December was assured of the car delivery within a week. She also said all her efforts to contact the chairman and managing director of AVCO failed.

Another victim, Garima Rana, paid a booking amount of Rs 50,000 on March 1 and another payment worth Rs 1,349,000 on April 5 for Santro GLS, but has not received the vehicle till date.

“We could never imagine that such a reputed company will play fraud,” Deepak Rana, Garima´s father, told myrepublica.com.

He further said, “We have been cheated and there is no one at the office to answer our queries,” adding, “On April 23, the branch manager of Tinkune office gave a written letter to deliver the car within 7-10 days, but it has not happened.”

All efforts made by myrepublica.com to get in touch with the branch manager, Amber Gurung, also failed.

Rana also informed that his friend, Muralidhar Sharma, whose name is included in the list, too has paid advance and not got his car. Sharma is out of town at present.

Similarly, Dr Yogesh Neupane paid Rs 150,000 eight months back for an i10. “I have complained at the CDO seeking refund but there is little hope as no concerned people at AVCO can be contacted,” Neupane told myrepublica.com.

It has been learnt that the advance amount range from Rs 50,000 to Rs 700,000.
