“It is certain that the new constitution would not be promulgated within the stipulated deadline. It will lead to a situation of might is right and armed forces will seize the power,” said Thapa, speaking at a press conference in Itahari. [break]
Thapa argued that power of arms, not people´s power, will prevail in the event of political and constitutional vacuum. “We still have two separate armies. One of them will seize the power,” he said, adding, “It is difficult to say which one among the two armies is stronger.”
Thapa added that there has not been any tangible progress in the integration of former Maoist combatants into the national army.
“Technically speaking, there has not been any progress in terms of integration. But even if the integration does happen, it will have no meaning unless the Maoists get rid of the mentality of rebellion,” he said.
Thapa said that though the source of his party´s strength lies in people it did not have the power of arms.
“We will continue to advocate in favor of monarchy peacefully. Monarchy will be restored eventually as Nepal without a monarch can never be stable,” he further said.
