“ARC´s term has been extended for a maximum of one year,” reads Wednesday´s cabinet decision. The commission has already submitted two interim reports to the government.
“The final report will make recommendations to the government about restructuring the administration in line with federalism and these recommendations will be incorporated in the new constitution,” said Mahendra Thapa, Member Secretary at the commission.
The government will make recommendations to the Constituent Assembly on the federal structure of the bureaucracy, based on the recommendations by the commission. The then Maoist-led government had established the commission. Its term expired two weeks ago.
Two new faces at NPC
Wednesday´s cabinet meeting also decided to appoint two new members to the National Planning Commission (NPC). According to a knowledgeable source, Kamaleshwar Puri and Dr Subodh Narayan Jha have been appointed to the commission. “The decision was reached upon the request of Tarai-based parties” said the source.
PM to have personal doctor
It is also learnt that Wednesday´s cabinet meeting decided to appoint a personal physician for Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal. Dr. Arjun Karki has been appointed the PM´s personal doctor. He will be provided salary and facilities out of state coffers.
Cheque ready for Koirala
The government has decided to issue a cheque worth Rs 250,000 in Singapore dollars to Nepali Congress President and former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala as an advance amount. “This is an advance amount. The rest will be provided upon submission of bills by him,” a source said. The government will bear all the expenses incurred in Koirala´s treatment in Singapore including travel expenses. As per Wednesday´s cabinet decision, air fare, accommodation expenses and other bills will be paid out of state coffers.
