KATHMANDU, July 30: For the majority of us, our phones are an extension of our life. And in our phones we have a number of apps that make our lives easier. There are apps that are purely for fun, like Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, and there are those like WhatsApp and Viber that make communication effortless for us. And we have apps that help in keeping our professional life in good shape.

Republica asked some tech professionals to share their favorite mobile app and what about it that helps make their life better.Manisha Karmacharya

I've been using Keep for more than two years now and it's my favorite app for a number of reasons. First of all, it syncs across your devices like in your phone, computer and tablet, so it's very accessible and handy. I use it to keep track of my to-do lists and to make notes. So whether it's my shopping list, or if I come across something interesting that I want to have a look at later, I use this app. I can also add pictures and audio messages as well as set time reminders to my lists. Keep is also helpful to jot down work related ideas that come to me when I'm outside. What's more, I can share these ideas with my colleagues through the app as it makes collaborations very easy.

As load shedding is an inconvenient reality for us, the Nepal Loadshedding Schedule is the app that I use every day. In a way, it's the app that dictates my activities, like the perfect time to return home from work or the time period in which I should complete my work while I'm at home. I'm always looking at the app to check whether there is electricity at home or what time it will come back. I've been using it for the last three years and it is very user-friendly. Users get notified if there are updates so we can easily get the latest schedule as soon as it is up. This app is perfect for all of us.

I've been using Evernote for over a year and it has been of tremendous help. I had a forgetful habit and didn't always remember important dates. With Evernote, I can save notes and reminders in any form I please—words, images or audio. I use it so often that if I happen to like something while passing by the mall, I save a picture of it in there in case I intend to purchase it later. I save all my personal and professional reminders on it and go through it more than four times a day. I would definitely recommend others to use this app.

My favorite app is Flipboard which I have been using for over a year. It connects social media with other websites so that you can 'flip' through from a newsfeed of one nature to the feed of a completely different nature. The app has given me the best of both worlds: I get updates on social network in addition to current affairs. My favorite, however, is the tech category, which I dutifully follow. Since the past year, this app has been keeping me on toes with the tech updates that not only help me quench my curiosities but also keep me updated with my job.

Inbox by Gmail is my favorite app at the moment. I like it because it's very intuitive. For instance, if I'm making travel plans and arranging flight tickets, it will automatically include the final details in the calendar. The same with meetings. Another good thing about Inbox is that I can have a particular email (already in my inbox) sent to me again at a time I find appropriate. So it makes tracking my work very easy. I've been using this ever since it launched. I'd recommend it to professionals who do a lot of work via email.

My favorite is Microsoft OneNote which is a part of Microsoft Office. The software is available both for computers and windows phone. The app enables me to procure typed data from scanned documents and even pictures. It's even more helpful during meetings. It enables me to voice or video record the meeting, and later if I have to find the moment when a specific term was spoken, I just enter the particular word on the search bar and I'm taken to that moment. And of course, it's really easy to take notes and make to-do lists on Microsoft OneNote.
