KATHMANDU, Sept 12: To recognize social entrepreneurship in Nepal, ChangeFusion Nepal calls for the proposal for Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA).

Organized by ChangeFusion Nepal and supported by National Business Initiative (NBI) and sponsored by Surya Nepal Private Limited, the objective of the Award is to reward and recognize ordinary people doing extraordinary works to create social, environmental and economic values.[break]

Santoshi Rana, Media and Communication Officer at ChangeFusion Nepal, said that social entrepreneurship is a new concept in Nepal, and the award intends to reward and recognize people who have contributed to the society.

She further said that there are people even in remote Nepal who are doing important works, and so the award intends to reward such people as well.

“We also want to educate people about what is social entrepreneurship and bring them to the forefront,” she explained.

The SNASEA will be a three-day event starting from November 18 and ending on November 20. On November 20, the actual award will take place, and on November 18 and 19, a bazaar and seminar will take place where anyone can come and share and showcase their ideas and products of social entrepreneurship.

Rana informed that individuals can apply themselves directly or can even nominate deserving social entrepreneurs for the award.

“The enterprise or venture, however, should be sustainable, should be a social enterprise, and should be able to create an impact in the society,” she added.

She further informed that the activities of the three days will focus on ideas and enterprises with social and environmental impacts.

The Award will not just be a ceremony but a learning experience aimed at encouraging people to become “job creators” instead of “job seekers,” while also inspiring the youth and everyone concerned to pursue their ideas and dreams.

The award is open to all Nepali residents, and there is no age restriction; and the selection will be based on certain criteria. The person should have a track record of trustworthiness, and good stakeholder relations are a precondition for eligibility.

The project needs to be socially and environmentally impacting in transforming systems to tackle the causes of poverty, marginalization and environmental deterioration. It should also demonstrate the potentials to achieve wider social and environmental changes.

The project also has to be sustainable, and the ventures, either non-profit or for-profit, must have an income-generation component, and show capacity to sustain themselves through their own income streams.

The venture should also be innovative, highlighting new solutions or approaches to social and environmental problems.

Te initiative should also be scalable and should be based on a model that can be scaled up or replicated by other entrepreneurs and institutions or in other geographic areas. It should, in short, be credible.

“We’ll award the best ventures and give all of our applicants the opportunity to join our network and promote their products or services,” reiterated Rana.

The last day for the call for proposal is September 22. Interested candidates can apply online at http://changefusionnepal.org/application_form.php or get more information at www.changefusionnepal.org.
