The firing from Indian territory on Nepali security forces is a matter of serious concern, said Chief District Officer (CDO) of Rautahat Madan Bhujel. According to CDO Bhujel, he has already informed the district magistrate of Sitamadhi, India and the superintendent of police there about the incident.
Locals from Masaha and Navaratan across the border had reportedly assisted Nepali agitators torching the Armed Police Force (APF) base camp at Laxmipur Belbichhwa, three kilometers east of district headquarters Gaur.
The local agitators from nearby villages with support from Indian locals attacked the base camp with a petrol bomb. Nine local agitators were injured in the incident.
The injured have been identified as Huseni Sah, Urmila Devi Yadav, Prem Sah, Amrendra Yadav, Kaushal Thakur, Kishori Yadav, Nawal Kishor Sah, Rajesh Yadav and Ram Adhar Yadav of Belbichhawa VDC. They are receiving treatment at the district hospital in Gaur, according to Pankaj Thakur, who is involved in the treatment.
According to local security personnel, Indian nationals from nearby villages opened fire targeting Nepali security forces. The APF base camp has informed the headquarters about the matter.
Following the incident, security around the border area has been tightened and the district headquarters has dispatched reinforcements to the base camp, according to the District Police Office (DPO).
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Sanu Babu Thapaliya said that Indian nationals firing bullets have reportedly extended support to the ongoing agitation in Gaur.
However, investigations into the attack are yet to ascertain the motive, he added.
