KATHMANDU, Feb 20: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has again landed in controversy over foreign players.
On Thursday, the Department of Immigration (DoI) requested ANFA to ensure that foreign players participating in domestic leagues have proper work permits and labor approvals. The DoI also said that the matter would be investigated immediately.

Following this notice, ANFA has indefinitely suspended the ongoing men’s and women’s national leagues in the capital. Both leagues had seen clubs fielding foreign players from various countries.
ANFA CEO Indraman Tuladhar said the ANFA submitted all necessary documents regarding foreign players’ visas to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council (NSC) one and a half months ago. “We suspended both leagues immediately after receiving the department’s letter. We had initiated the visa process for foreign players one and a half months ago, but neither the ministry nor the National Sports Council has approved it,” he added.
The men’s league began on January 14, while the women’s league started on March 18.
