ANFA elects unopposed committee

KATHMANDU, Oct 24: Despite a huge number of aspirants for the executive body of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the general assembly of the football governing body of Nepal elected a unanimous 16-member committee on Thursday.



Altogether 44 candidates withdrew their names from the race for the 17-member committee, which has one seat reserved for a women member. [break]



Ganesh Thapa, who was uncontested for the top post, will lead ANFA as the president for the sixth term. He has been at the helm of the football governing body for the last 19 years.

Lalit Krishna Shrestha, Karma Chhiring Sherpa, Bijay Narayan Manandhar and Kishor Rai have retained their posts of vice presidents among 22 aspirants.



Four new faces - Prakash Pangeni, Pradesh Singh Rathod, Devendra Man Singh Basnet and Kalpana Piya Shrestha - came in the executive committee as members. Shrestha was nominated under the women´s quota.



Pankaj Bikram Nembang, Basanta Aryal, Ganesh Bahadur Chand, Ramesh Rayamajhi, Dinesh Byanjankar, Mohammad Sabi Ullah, Ratna Kumar Shrestha and Purusottam Adhikari have retained their posts as members. Altogether 37 aspirants had filed candidacy for the 11 posts, excluding one for the women´s quota.

In the opening ceremony, Thapa had claimed ANFA to be the most transparent association in Nepali sports.



According to Thapa, the general assembly also approved an estimated budget of Rs 200m for the fiscal year 2070/71. Of the total budget, ANFA has estimated an expenditure of Rs 181.5m and income of 200.2m. The general assembly also approved 143.9 million expenditure and Rs 150m income of the fiscal year 2069/70.



Meanwhile, a press statement issued on late Thursday by ANFA states that Dhirendra Pradhan and Indra Man Tuladhar have been nominated general secretary and CEO respectively by the executive committee meeting. Similarly, the meeting also nominated Bir Bahadur Khadka and Kiran Rai as joint-general secretaries.



 Pradhan and Tuladhar held the same posts in the previous committee while Khadka was a member.
