Bastola, who is yet to gain consciousness, has been kept at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, according to Mani Chaulagain, eldest son-in-law of Bastola. [break]
Though all the vital parts of his body are fully functioning, Bastola still needs to be fed through pipes due to lack of consciousness. His family members plan to keep him at the Norvic Hospital for one-and-a-half month before taking home as per the doctors´ suggestion.
Bastola, according to doctors, needs good nursing care, physician´s support, physiotherapy and family environment for recovery. However, it is too early to comment how long he would take to regain consciousness as some patient suffering from microscopic damage in deep parts of brain take as long as a year to regain consciousness, said the doctors involved in his treatment.
Bastola was first rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS) in Dharan after he suffered a brain hemorrhage while attending a function at Birat Chowk, Morang on December 29. He was later rushed to Siliguri, India, where he underwent first surgery.

Bastola, a central member of NC, served as a foreign minister in the cabinet of late Girija Prasad Koirala. He also served as Nepal´s ambassador to India. During the last general convention of NC, Bastola had taken an initiative to form a third front that supported neither factions led by President Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.
