ACAP punishes 7 for poaching conserved animals

POKHARA, May 3: Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) has punished seven people involved in hunting and poaching endangered wildlife. The project slapped a jail term of 15 years and Rs 100,000 fine each on four convicts and ordered a fine of Rs 80,000 on three others for helping the culprits in killing conserved animals.



Those who were given the jail sentence are Ghumi Raj Kami, Shyam Pun Magar and Manoj Pun of Rukum, Shyam Prasad Lalchan and Kulman Ghale of Gorkha. [break]Those ordered to pay the fine of Rs 80,000 are Mina Sunar and Kanchha Bir Rai.



Of those who received the sentence, Manoj and Shyam were tried and convicted in absentia as they are still at large. ACAP officials said the punishments were meted out as per the National Park and Wildlife Conservation Law, 2029.
