CHITWAN, Sept 9: Altogether 980 former Maoist combatants from all seven cantonments have filled up forms as part of the integration process of the former combatants into Nepal Army till Saturday.

While 234 former Maoist combatants filled up forms for selection process in the Sixth Divisional Headquarters in Daharathpur, Surkhet, 200 combatants filled up the forms in Maoist third division cantonment in Chitwan, according Bala Nanda Sharma, Coordinator of the Secretariat of Special Committee.[break]

Likewise, 155 in the fourth division cantonment in Jyaltung Danda, Nawalparasi, 109 in fifth division cantonment in Dahaban in Rolpa, 95 in the seventh division cantonment in Talbanda, Kailai and 82 former combatants in the first division cantonment in Chulachuli, Ilam, filled up the forms to take part in the selection process.

"The recruitment selection process that began two days ago in all seven Maoist combatants has almost come to an end," said Sharma. "Now the selection process will begin in the satellite cantonments."

Sharma said that the selection process in all satellite cantonments will begin from Sunday.

NA Selection Teams have said it was their compulsion to go to the satellite cantonments for selection process as most satellite cantonments are geographically far from the main cantonments.

NA sources said physical fitness test of those filling up forms for taking part in the selection process has already started in the respective cantonments.

The Selection Team plans to publicize the final results of the selected candidates on September 19. Those failing to pass through the selection process will get chance to choose other options - voluntary retirement with cash incentive or rehabilitation.

Though the selection of former Maoist combatants opting for lower-rank position in the NA will be finalized in the cantonments themselves, the selection of the former combatants opting for officer-level position will be made in Parsa-based NA Staff College and Bharatpur-based NA´s Barrack.

The ex-Maoist combatants who do not meet necessary age requirements as per the date mentioned in their citizenship certificates have been requesting the selection team to put them in the selection process.

Maoist combatants argue that more than 50 percent former combatants vying for integration with the NA would be out from the selection if their demand to give due consideration on the age factor is not given a heed, according to PLA Brigade Commander Gobinda Batala.
