97.41 pc vote for consensus govt

KATHMANDU, Aug 19:  Almost cent percent voters have favored a consensus government in the country during the mock elections organized by 17 different students’ unions as part of their program to oust the current government.



According to Tarun Dal President Udaya Shumsher Rana, 97.41 percent of the people voted for a consensus government. A total of 1,526,835 people had taken part in the polls held at 150 booths across the country. [break]



Rana said 1.30 percent voted in support of the incumbent Baburam Bhattarai-led government, while the remaining 1.29 percent votes were cancelled. The agitating youth activists announced the poll results Sunday morning while picketing the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar.



They have submitted the results to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav today itself. Despite increasing pressure, PM Bhattarai has refused to step down, saying his government´s alternative should be set up first.
