91 held in crackdown on license forgery

NEPALGUNJ, April 21: Police arrested 91 persons for trying to obtain their driving licenses, paying money to brokers.



The arrests were made at the local Capital hotel and JalJala hotel near the bus park. All of them hail from Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Butwal.



Police also rounded up some members of the racket involved in the forgery with several copies of fake licenses and register books from the district transport office.



Chief of Banke police Bikram Thapa, the Nawalparasi-based Nawalpur Driving Center, Chitwa-based Hamro Driving Institute and Butwal-based SK Driving Center are involved in dealing in forged liscences.



All those arrested had arrived in Nepalgunj to appear for a written test. Police have claimed that some government staffers at the transport office had ties with the racketeers in making and distributing forged driving documents.
