According to the result, 47.16 percent of the 419,049 of students who appeared in this year´s SLC examination passed. Last year the percentage of students who passed the examination was 55.5 percent.[break]
The lower number of students passing the examination has been attributed to the absence of pre test called send-up prior SLC this year, which was mandatory until last year.
Talking to Republica Mahasharm Sharma, director general of the department of education said the send-up test could be a reason behind lesser pass percentage. “Though the unimpressive result needs serious attention and we must all do our best to improve it, lack of send-up test, which used to filter the students before they appeared in the SLC in the past, could be one of the main reason behind this,” he said.
According to the result sheet publicized by the Office of the Controller of Examination on Wednesday 11,760 examinees have crossed the iron gate with distinction marks. Similarly 77,257 students passed it in first division, 99,830 in second division and 8,791 in third division.
Likewise, the board informed that it expelled 461 examinees, cancelled 513 and withheld results of 1,090 others, while 7,555 had dropped the examination.
On the other hand, only 13.7 percent or 10,549 out of 76,979 students under exempted section made it through. Among those, 126 examinees secured first, 7,595 second and 2,828 third division.
Speaking at press meet controller of examination Dilliram Rimal said the board had partnered up with eight SMS service providers such as Teletalk, Janaki technology, Easy Service, Nepal Telecom, Kantipur Publications and APCA Nepal among others to disseminate the results faster and without hassle.
Students and parents who had gathered outside the board of examination office were seen dialing the symbol number to these services and were visibly thrilled to get the answer in minutes. Interestingly students were also discussing what to study further.
Talking to Republica Anusha Pandey, 15, from Siddhartha Vidyapith said she would go for science as she wanted to be a medical doctor. Similarly, her classmate Smriti Chauhan, 15, said management would be a better option for her. Both of them said they had received SMS message within 5 minutes of the results being published and that they had secured first division.
