KATHMANDU, March 31: A total of 18 international flights scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled, according to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) authorities.
Flights along the Kuwait-Kathmandu-Kuwait route as well as Dubai-Kathmandu-Dubai, Kathmandu-Doha-Kathmandu, and Kathmandu-Dammam-Kathmandu were among those affected due to bad weather. Jazeera Airways and Fly Dubai each had two flights cancelled, Himalaya Airlines and Kuwait Airways had four each, and Nepal Airlines had six, totaling 18 cancelled flights. Each flight typically carries 250–300 passengers.
Bad weather cancels 61 flights
In addition, two international flights were diverted due to bad weather. A flight from South Korea was diverted to New Delhi, where it will remain grounded, while a flight from Dubai was rerouted to Lucknow after it could not land in Kathmandu. Once weather conditions improve, the Dubai flight is expected to land at TIA.
Furthermore, five domestic flights from various districts were diverted to Bhairahawa Airport due to landing difficulties in Kathmandu caused by thunderstorms, heavy rain, and lightning.
Airport authorities have advised travelers to confirm flight schedules before leaving home, as further cancellations or diversions are possible due to ongoing weather disturbances and regional conflicts affecting air travel.
