‘16-point pact will guide politics towards stability’

NEPALGUNJ, June 14: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the 16-point agreement signed among the four major political parties has created a new political scenario in the country.

At a news conference organized by the Revolutionary Journalists Association, Banke, at Kohalpur on Sunday, Chairman Dahal said, "A new belief has developed among the people and the national politics has headed towards stability after the 16-point pact.

"Clarifying that the agreement on eight provinces was a political power balance, he said the parties, who vented their dissatisfaction regarding the pact, are unaware of its reality.

The UCPN (Maoist) Chairman said this pact should not be misinterpreted as power equation as no such power equation remains permanent, it can be changed as per the situation. He further said that although his party's stance was on 10 provinces with identity, presidential system among others, there was no alternative than to sign the pact in current political situation of the country.

Stating that initiatives were underway to bring dissatisfied political parties into consensus, Dahal said the argument made in a hurry by CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya was not relevant.

Responding to a query of media persons, he expressed belief that his party would not make any comprise on republicanism, federalism, secularism and inclusive people' movement that were the demands of the people's movement, Madhes movement and Indigenous nationalities' movement.
