1 killed as police, locals clash in Sarlahi

SARLAHI, Sept 9: One person died and another two dozen were injured in a clash between police and locals along the Nawalpur-Malangawa road section in Sarlahi district on Sunday.



According to an eye witness Ram Hridaya Mahato, Isahar Pamariya, 55, of Laxmipur-4, Kotdraha died after being mercilessly thrashed by the police.[break]



A group of locals from Laxmipur had enforced a chakka jam demanding repair of the electric transformer in their VDC which stopped functioning two months ago.



Tension ran high after police used excessive force and fired shots in the air to disperse the crowd.



"Police and APF personnel thrashed us mercilessly," said Ishu Mansuri, a businessman who also sustained injuries in the clash.



Birendra Das, in-charge of Laxmipur Health Post, informed that the condition of Rajendra Mahato (28) is critical.
